Helping non-profit organizations evaluate compliance and risk and create an implementation workplan for addressing gaps

The Ops Collective has worked with a number of organizations to help them evaluate their current operating infrastructure with the goal of identifying and addressing any compliance or risk gaps. We have developed a checklist to support this work, which is available for purchase in The Ops Shop. We have a strategic approach to risk – it is never our goal to reduce all risk, but rather ensure that organizations are aware of the risks that come with their programmatic work and operating within the non profit industrial complex. We want organizations to take on the risk where it matters most (i.e., programmatic work) and minimize and mitigate other areas of risk (i.e., HR, finance, etc.).

The Ops Collective helps Organizations by:

  • Conducting an evaluation and assessment of current operating infrastructure. This is accomplished through:

    • Requesting access to all key operating documents (strategies, handbooks, SOPs, manuals, policies, etc.).

    • Conducting interviews with staff and external partners who touch operations.

  • Supporting organizations in completing our compliance checklist.

  • Identifying the highest priority areas of compliance gaps.

  • Developing a workplan to address gaps in order of priority.

Outcomes of Our Work

  • Organizations understand their current state of compliance.

  • Findings and recommendations memo detailing actions needed to get up to compliance.

  • Developing an operations strategy and workplan.

  • Identifying external partners as needed to help fill gaps (e.g., accountants, lawyers, state registration firms, etc.).
